How a spa comes out

A hot tub is a fiberglass shell, a wood or composite skirt, a steel frame and a lot of foam. When one dies in a San Antonio backyard, it usually sits for a year because nobody can move it. We drain it, disconnect the power at the spa panel once you or an electrician has shut the breaker, and cut the shell into sections a person can carry.

Then the pieces go out through the side gate, one at a time. A standard gate is enough. If the yard has no gate, or the spa is on a deck or up a slope, put that in the photo and we plan the route before we show up. We take the pump, the heater and the cover too.

• Drained on site, water routed away from the foundation
• Shell cut into carry sized sections
• Skirt, frame, pump, heater and cover all removed
• Pieces carried out through a standard side gate
• Pad swept and the spot left ready for whatever comes next

Electrical and what is left behind

A spa runs on a dedicated circuit with a disconnect box near the tub. We do not do electrical work, so the breaker needs to be off and the line needs to be safe before we cut. If you are not sure how it was wired, an electrician can cap it in a short visit and then we can come. We can also coordinate the timing.

What stays is the concrete pad or the deck cutout the spa sat on. Some people want the pad gone too. We can break up a small pad and haul it in the same load if it is not too thick. A large pad is a concrete job and we will tell you that up front.
